Jay,
The SCSI INQUIRY command should return a 0 for the peripherial
device type field. It should also do a MODE SENSE to determine the
configuration of the device…although it could do a READ CAPACITY
command.
Interesting point though…my book doesn't show a SCSI device type
of 7, only 0 to 5
00 Direct Access device (eg. Magnetic disk)
01 Sequential Access device (eg. Magnetic tape)
02 Printer device
03 Processor Device
04 Write Once…Read Many device (some optical disks)
05 Read Only..Direct Access device (some optical disks)
