Rob,
The system won't boot past seeing and reporting the SCSI adapter. I've got a
good chart of all the IRQs, etc. I have BIG confilcts in advice as to how to
set up the adapter and hard drive. I took the top two and tried both ways. I
asked BusLogig why the system might not boot. They said it was bcause the
adapter was plugged into a non-bus mastering VESA socket. The doc for the
motherboard says both VESA slots are bus mastering!
I took it to my clone man and it turns out he doesn't have the foggiest. My
instructions were, 1) get the system to boot with the adapter in it, and 2)
partition the hard drive… When I got to the shop he had given it to some
kids who were playing with the hard drive. They had never got the system to
boot.
I'll shop by phone a little for a system integrator who claims to know this
stuff then go get a couple of RMAs and send this stuff back.
This is a learning experience, but I don't know what I'm learning. Like I say,
I like to use the stuff, but I'm not as interested in getting it to work. I
really thought I had done the required homework, though. But the disagreements
on the forums and from the tech support lines tell me that there are lots of
opinions out there on this stuff. And them 1's and 0's don't give a damn about
opinions!
