John, the Berlitz courses for many languages are available on CD-ROM. You'll have to check with them for specifics. This is more of a course for a traveler than an in-depth course for college level language study. I heard of another course that uses computerized "flash cards", but this is a beginner's level course. I did see a demo of a course that was being developed for college level study that used Video laser disk technology. Movie classics were played in the native language and translations are overlayed by the computer software on demand. Students are asked questions about the scene to determine how well they understood the language. I suggest you not focus on the need for CD-ROM technology and just find the best course available. IBM, Apple and Control Data are companies I would contact with your requirements. This product was developed using Asymetrix's Toolbook program, so they may also be able to provide assistance in locating a suitable vendor. Once you locate a suitable vendor I suggest asking them about hardware requirements. A network environment should allow the instructor to monitor individual student's progress. You will probably need a CD-ROM or Video laser disk player for each station and a sound card will definately be needed for each station.
