OK, I'll try to estimate costs here in the US. I live in a small town in the Midwest, which is considerably cheaper than other places with more famous names. Of course, I need to drive at least 20 minutes to reach a restaurant that uses sub-dried tomatoes. A good PC programmer might get $35,000 to $55,000 a year around here. Add at least 25% to move them to California, although a programmer out there might get $100,000 or more if they're really good. That would mean taxes at about 28%. An apartment here might cost $500 a month, plus utilities. Double that in California, at least.
