Ron, Indeed, there are several non-linear editing systems that are already using Motion JPEG. Avid comes to mind readily. As you have surmised, it is the audio encoding that is the most troublesome. In addition, if a Motion JPEG audio standard became available, I doubt that the compression ratio would be as small as MPEG. However, the Motion JPEG w/ Audio could be a contender against the MPEG-II (broadcast quality) standard. MPEG is great for archiving a production (near broadcast quality) and for distribution.
