Bruce Glad to hear you got it up ok. Statistically and based on experience many of the problems are connectors…not seated, corroded etc. >it doesn't appear to be socketed. Should the sockets be obvious, Yeh, pretty obvious. The surface mounts look like a bug with his legs glued to the board, much more low profile. You probably have surface mount. The reason for having surface mount was to reduce these connector related problems, but if the chip fails it gets to be a problem in itself. You are lucky indeed to get the new MB when you did.
