Bill I just remembered something else that may indicate GPS will have SA turned off. There was a newspaper article a couple days ago that stated that Loran was supposed to be phased out by 2015, but under current funding will probably be phased out by 1998. Only a few 100,000 boaters depend on Loran, so the loss of their navigation won't go unnoticed! The article did mention that GPS is the only reasonable alternative. Thus, there should be a little more incentive to make it actually work. On the boating section of the Outdoor forum, a few people commented that GPS was nice, but when heading for the entrance to the harbor in the fog where they only have about 30 feet of clearance they still use Loran for its 10' accuracy and use GPS mostly as a toy.
