Yes, it is proprietary and you can't use any CD ROM with it except one that is SB Pro specific. You CAN just buy the drive–the local Babbages here even sells them, as do most places that sell the C/L cards–but that means if you upgrade your audio later you'll also have to change CD ROM drives. C/L has been getting yelled at for this for years but to no avail (other competing cards have basic SCSI-2 interfaces that can take almost any CD ROM that's SCSI-2 compliant, which is most of them, although they don't have the full daisy chaining abilities). Like you, I have a SB Pro, but I also have to run my CD ROM off a separate SCSI-2 card.
