I was just repeating what I was told, two different SGI based companies sent me tech sheets with explanations of their spotlights, and they both are set up so that you can set decay to "decrease light intensity inversely proportional to the square of the distance." They also sent us example calculations to accompany the brief. As a note you can also set the spots to higher or lower ranges of decay by changing some parameters. The main options are, no decay, linear decay, inversely proportional to the square, inversely proportional to the cube. None of it makes alot of difference to us, we were just in need of matching some 3DS lit scenes to work in some other packages and we were having alot of trouble matching lighting. Hence the questions.
