Corel and several other companies use the .PAL extension in ways that are not compatible with the Microsoft (Windows) .PAL format. Get hold of Bit Edit and Pal Edit, they come with MM Toolbook 3.0. They will become your best friends for palette work. Also, Paint Shop Pro from JASC, Inc in Minnetonka Minnesota has excellent palette handling tools but unfortunately it also has its own .PAL format. What I do is work in Paint Shop Pro for color fitting, etc., then save a .BMP or whatever then load into Bit Edit from which you do a show palette function then save to file and it will save a Windows (legal) .PAL palette file. You can also make an identity palette prior to saving the file if you need the standard Windows interface colors to be included in the palette.
