Hi Joe,
Set the Luminance value for the light you are lighting the scene with to 0 at
the beginning of your animation, then set it to 255, or whatever your ending
values should be (all of this in the Keyframer, by the way). Then adjust that
light to exclude the violin object(s). Set the light illuminating the violin
to exclude everything else. That should do it, I think.
