The Fool's Errand
In recent weeks, "The Fool's Errand" by Miles Computing has appeared in
Amiga software stores. This game, an adventure featuring more than eighty
puzzles, was originally a Macintosh product before being ported to the
I.B.M., and most recently to the Amiga. When the Amiga conversion was
being ported, some enhancements were added to the program in the areas of
music and digitized sound. Just after the program was completed, and just
before shipping, the original Mac programmer announced that he would not
allow the Amiga version to ship unless these enhancements were removed from
the program. Apparently, he didn't like the idea of the Amiga version of
the game being any better than the Mac original, and he had a contract with
Miles giving him full veto power over any later versions.
I was one of two programmers working on the Amiga version. Given this
demand from the Mac programmer, and his veto power over the project, we had
no choice…we removed the music and digitized sound from the Amiga
version.
…or did we???
Let's just say that the Amiga version of "The Fool's Errand" has ONE
ADDITIONAL PUZZLE not found on the Mac or MS-DOS versions…we wonder who
will solve it first…
