Hilary, Do you have a sound card? The only method I know of to get wave sound from the pc speaker is by using the driver available from the Microsoft Download library called speak.exe. This is a self expanding file so place it in its own directory. Once its expanded you can install it by using the drivers applet in Control Panel. It is limited to .wav file types and you can use this until you get a sound card installed. To really enjoy Nautilus and Multimedia Applications you need to get a sound card that uses external speakers or headphones. It should be MPC compatible. If you have a sound card, do you have it connected to headphones or external speakers? Do you have the drivers set up for use with your card? Don't get frustrated yet, the experts will get to you.
