Jon, The GIF file setting is only for the resulting output (in 256 colors), although 3D Studio uses 24-bit color internally (thus the save-last-image). There should be a GIF file on disk, if you selected Render to Disk, and are using the Null driver setting (since you are rendering an image of higher resolution than your display). It should have the name you assigned to it, when you began the render. As to how much RAM you need, check 3D Studio's status after the render, and see if you're paging to disk, how much memory was available, and how much was used.
