Jorge, I've tried all of the things you suggest – terminations are correct, heads are clean, tapes are tense (G) – but thanks for the thoughts. I haven't tried juggling the order of things on the bus because the particular physical arrangements inside the box are quite constrained, so options there are limited (non-existant).
