John, I didn't catch the original message but it sounds like you have a handle on an explanation. You can chroma-key in a round about way, using 3ds, then animator pro, then video post but it involves rendering against specially illuminated backgrounds in a unique colour and then seperating out shadows etc. Nobody but me seems lunatic enough to want to do this kind of thing, though <g>.
