You've lost me a little, I'm not sure what you mean by using a "fixed height".
Generally I just turn the machine on and it tells me how many satellites it is
reading and gives a lat/lon and elevation. Now I have to go back and read the
instructions again and see what more I can get out of it. My use is to locate
geologic/mineral sites which are typically many miles apart, even half way
across a state in several hours (as I check spots out on the way to or from the
main area). Are there any "secrets" we should be doing to get the most out of
these things with this type of use?
I heading out tomorrow to do the same thing for 5 days in SW Idaho. The first
site is a 2.5 hour drive from home, then the next sites are within 30 miles of
each other but a couple hundred miles south of the first one.
