The latest STudio16 software will install for either board. The basic
differences between the two boards is that the 1012 is only mono and will
handle up to four tracks of sound. The 516 is stereo and will handle up to
eight tracks of sound. Both will record sound to a CD quality sampling rate.
With the 516 your can pan between the right and left channels. Other than that
they work very much the same. It depends on what you are doing and whether you
need stereo output.
