Mike, I'm convinced that the ability to read CD-R discs isn't a simple matter. My Texel _used_ to read CD-R great then quit over a period of about a week. It was repaired (replaced) with a unit that was supposed to have been checked for CD-R readability. It can read some CD-Rs but not others. Felix Nemirovsky, an engineer with Plextor who really seems to know his stuff, told me that the only way to really be sure a player will work with CD-R is to send a CD-R from that recorder and have the player matched to the specific recorder. Now I'm sure he's talking about for the best match, not just a match. In my case I'll probably just sell the Texel 2X and upgrade that unit. As a player this Texel has less than 2 hours of use on it.
