Greg, Do you need a ton of detail in your ship? I assume so if you're trying to
boolean on geometry. If you can live with it, it's much easier to just stick
boxes, etc. in your hull and then attach them instead of booleaning them. You
can also subdivide some faces and then pull select vertices outward to get
lines. Scatter may also work for you, as it does place objects based on
normals. But if you need to be exacting about your lines – then either modeling
them in or making accurate maps is the way to go. You may also try selecting
groups of faces, detaching them to new objects and then mapping them seperately
may work. Of course reattaching and welding all the vertexes would have to be
done. It all comes down to how much detail you need.
