Thanks, Tom. I knew editing would be a problem. I've always planned
to keep the Targa files separate so I could always go to the Exabyte/Abekas to
D1 or 2 route if my work sells. It's kinda like
holding on to the negative in film work. I have been looking
at Premier so I could upload AVI or QT files (but I still don't like'em :() I'm
looking at MPEG-2 just as a way to get everything to video and the MARS 2 so I
won't have to buy a couple of huge hard-drives. If the small data file sizes
hold true with a good compression setting yet excellent video, it'll be great.
The MARS 2
is supposed to work with your existing hard-drive. So there's money
savings if it's all true. I'm thinking of getting the new Iomega Jaz
when it's available…supposed to have a gig of removable storage and
act just like a hard-drive…a good A/V one at that from one early
review I read. If it works as well as Zip Drives, Iomega has another winner for
good data storage.
I'm happy to hear you've had good luck with your PVR. What kind of
compression settings have you tried? How much time do you get on
what size hard-drive before you run into problems?
Thanks again.
