The LQ series is not capable of TRUE 360 DPI. In that res. (density 4 from prefs) the dots are not aligned directly in a grid fashion, but each row it offset diagonally from the last. Now add the fact that a nylon ribbon is being used and your greyscale and color dithering look quite muddy. It's the same way on any LQ-compatible (including my Citizen GSX-140). You will have to use density 3 instead for dithered/greyscaled/shaded output. density 4 is really only good for text, lines, etc.
