The LQ series is not capable of TRUE 360 DPI. In that res. (density 4 from
prefs) the dots are not aligned directly in a grid fashion, but each row it
offset diagonally from the last. Now add the fact that a nylon ribbon is
being used and your greyscale and color dithering look quite muddy. It's
the same way on any LQ-compatible (including my Citizen GSX-140). You will
have to use density 3 instead for dithered/greyscaled/shaded output.
density 4 is really only good for text, lines, etc.

Sorry for the slow reply. First, I know very little about the use of
the graphics mode of this printer, as I am sure you already know.
I bought the printer primarily for the high print speed and one graphic
dump application. Now I have a NEED to learn how to program the use of
the graphics. My manual has 11 options for graphics mode. Six are for
eight pin use, and five are for 24 pins. It sure looks like I am going
to spend a lot of time in preference graphic2. I thank you for your help.
