John, I don't think that is a fair assessment at all of the 2.0 situation. First off, yes, they broke SOME things, but so many things still work it is pretty amazing. It was interesting to watch compatibility grow between releases. I still remember running Excellence under the release 2.00 of WB on the 3000. It crashed in the most amazing ways. Now it works. As I understand it, dos.library was totally rewritten in C/ASM. fastfilesystem was rewritten. Compugraphic support was added. etc. etc. And, admittedly, it is closing in on 3 years between releases. But I don't believe that the backwards compatibility efforts were wasted. Also, none of us can be certain how much virtual memory code has actually been written. BTW, keep in mind that many of the AmigaDOS people have already moved on to new work. Besides the faCt that 2.0 is now done (essentially) I feel pretty certain that many of them moved on several months ago. But, then again, after the third of September we'll all know much better. Well, some of us will. — Ethan
