Stealth disks
When 3DS starts up, it looks for all currently-valid map paths for which
you've configured the program via either the 3DS.SET file or the 3DS.PRJ
default project file. If it looks for one that isn't there (such as when
you don't have a disk in the drive) it won't install that device.
