I have always thought that shooting nuclear waste into the sun would be a good idea if large amounts of waste could be freed from earth's gravity cheaply. Once in space cheap, throwaway rockets could give it a two second push and the suns gravity would do the rest. It SEEMED like a good idea until Challenger exploded.
