[ continuation ] expect to see is fiber-optic cable brought into the homes of America, first a better means of providing telephone communications, but then Ma-Bell will offer a 'cable box' to allow reception of television signals via the fiber, followed very soon by 'data' and 'fax' services. All to be delivered over that one fiber-optic cable that the FCC allowed into the homes of America. As for wether this is good or bad … only time will tell. It will make much more 'information' available to the American home …. yet at the same time it'll give Ma-Bell a strangle hold on the American public (ala 1950 – remember when it was illegal to install your own phone? and you had to pay additional charges for EVERY extension phone you had in your home?). So the bottom line is that your idea of having set of 'electronic refernce books' available to EVEYONE is a good idea …. the public at large is equipped to make it reality, and the business sector does not have a viable vehicle in place to allow this dream to become reality. So COME BACK DOWN TO REALITY! What can be done NOW? What alternatives do we have available TODAY? you said yourself that throwing the books in the dump is bad …. but what else do we have available NOW? Don't give me loud wailing and gnashing of teeth ….. give me SOLUTIONS that can be implemented NOW! Whaping it from Wyoming Marc Speth
