Don, I guess I've just been very lucky over the last couple of years, not having had any problems whatsoever with a hard disk. However, when I bought my previous Amiga, I nearly lost the original system software due to a virus that came with the Amiga. (Yes, on the software packaged with it!) Luckily, I had access to uninfected disks from the Amiga at work and was able to destroy the virus, otherwise I would have been a very irate customer indeed. Now, I certainly don't want to be in that position again. Neither can I really face the prospect of backing up to floppies, so it seems I'm going to have to invest in a tape streamer.
