John,
I have to disagree with your coffee shop group, a developer charges
what he feels his software is worth and what he can get. Of Course, He
also makes sure he pays the bills and makes a profit. If a developer is
under charging for his stuff it's not the fault of the Amiga, Commodore, or
the people that use the machine. Take a look at games. No low prices
because it's on an Amiga, in fact some games cost more because they had to
port them to the Amiga.
No! On the Amiga or the Mac or a clone, professional people will
pay for professional software. SAS now costs $399. SuperBase Pro is
$300+. ProPage pushes $300. That's a long way from a 25-50 dollar home
program. If we Ami dudes wanted cheap, we'd-a-bought a clone and got our
software by trading and pirating like everybody I know does.
I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know your answer
is worth questioning.
