The 3D Studio manual does a pretty poor job of covering this issue.
Newer video cards do make life simple with 1.0 aspect ratios, but
standard VGA (and the basic AAPLAY flic player) use an aspect ratio
of 0.82. Life gets really wierd if you have a flic (0.82) that you
want to print (1.0) or show on a different monitor (1.0) and then
need to send out to a video frame buffer (1.23, 1.27, 1.05,…)!!!
Also, some image files are saved with explicit aspect ratios and are
corrected for whatever display or print automatically, and some are
not! As far as I know, there is no handy, idiot proof, one-step way
to convert images and animations between different aspect ratios.
