Dale…
You want an analogy that works? Ok.
A bank is a dongle for your money. If you don't want it ripped off, or stolen
by a thief, you have to put it in a bank to protect it. Every time you want
some of that money, you have to go to a bank machine or the bank itself and
withdraw. This means that without your bank card (dongle) you can't access your
funds.
It doesn't *have* to be that way, but it's protection for you and for your
money. It's your choice to protect your money that way.
By putting your money in the bank, you are protecting it from all potential
perils of thievery, just as a dongle does. Sure, there are ways for
unscrupulous bank employees to get at your money, just as there are ways to
defeat a dongle. By and large, however, the bank protection is enough to deter
99of the potential people who would want to steal your cash, and the dongle is
likely just as effective against the casual armchair software thief.
