Ara,
I read this gigantic saga and since the begining I agree with you. I think
people should specialize in doing what they can do best, and I guess the only
reason why that is not happening is because the "Art" (I consider it a form of
art) is so new and young. I just love to do everything, but what I really enjoy
is to apply textures and play with light effects.
Yes, I do believe somebody could model and animate a project and send it to
another person to apply the light, just like in movies or plays, the director
doesn't take care of everything. If he needs somebody to create scenes, he
hires a specialized person. If he needs light effects, he hires another person,
and so on.
And I also have a hard time describing myself: am I a Computer Graphics Artist,
or a modeler, or an animator, or what? People from inside the trade understand
what I mean when I call myself a modeler, but what about the clients, that know
nothing about it? They usually say "what, a modeler, what do you mean?"
Specialize, YES! Better names, YES!
