The story is I am up and running with no problems at all, well none with the
WB. The ROMs went into the sockets as stated in the instructions: the ROM0 in
the higher numbered socket (and named ROM1) and the ROM1 in the lower numbered
socket (with the name ROM0). After that I rebooted, the old workbench came up
and it seemed to run fine with the old workbench (2.04). However, after a
while it crashed. I then rebooted with the install disk in and loaded 3.1
according to the screen instructions; all pretty straightforward. The final
step was to click on the proceed button and the machine rebooted. It came up
fine. The install even modified my existing startup files so that the system
came up pretty much like it was before installing 3.1. However, the whole
reason for getting 3.1 was to run AMax IV, but AMax IV does not run. It comes
up with the correct screen, then the smiling Apple face and then it crashes
giving an Error 8000 0003. I guess I will have to see if ReadySoft can come up
with a solution.
In your case what happens if you powerup and hold both mouse buttons down, do
you go into the pre-boot screen? If this is the case, try booting from a
floppy. If it doesn't go to the pre-boot screen, it would appear that it is
more than the 3.1 software being installed as the machine does not go to any
drive if it is in pre-boot stage. Try it and see what you get. The pre-boot
screen has quite a number of options to work with. Maybe we can figure
something out after you try this.
Regards, and good luck,
Norm
