<< J.J. (the MeshPaint programmer) tells me that New Orleans is also run down and unpleasant. He spends his non-Positron time at Tulane. >> Actually, New Orleans can be quite pleasant, if you know where to look. Much of the downtown area is a good place to avoid, but most of the riverfront area around the convention center is quite nice. The French Quarter is a fun place, especially for tourists, and is actually reasonably safe as long as you stay between Bourbon Street and the riverfront. A good way to spend the day is to go for a streetcar ride into the garden district, or just wander around Jackson Square and the French Market. << I guess my biggest disappointments stemmed from trying to find food. >> In that case, you will love New Orleans! The general rule is that the narrower and darker the alley you have to go down, the better the food will be 🙂 You really didn't like that pizza place next door to the Hotel Figueroa? As it gets closer to SIGGRAPH 96 time (yeesh! already talking about next year!), I will be sure to post some recommendations for good places to visit, eat, etc. J.J.
