Actually, New Orleans can be quite pleasant, if you know where to look. Much
of the downtown area is a good place to avoid, but most of the riverfront area
around the convention center is quite nice. The French Quarter is a fun place,
especially for tourists, and is actually reasonably safe as long as you stay
between Bourbon Street and the riverfront. A good way to spend the day is to
go for a streetcar ride into the garden district, or just wander around Jackson
Square and the French Market.

In that case, you will love New Orleans! The general rule is that the
narrower and darker the alley you have to go down, the better the food will be

As it gets closer to SIGGRAPH 96 time (yeesh! already talking about next
year!), I will be sure to post some recommendations for good places to visit,
eat, etc.
