Greetings, Brethren! I am just returned from an exciting time in the City of Lost Angels, where I zipped in to attend the Wavey Awards ceremony, and zipped out with a Wavey Award myself! It was for the "Stephen King Book-of-the-Month Club" ad I participated in at Ball & Chain Productions, and we ( we being Sean Hannon, Jim Bresnahan, and Chuck Jepson) took the award for "Best Use of Lightwave in a TV Commercial". This spot was also nominated for "Best Character Animation", which was my main contribution to the piece. And my work on the Ad Rats cartoon rats with my partner Bill Chadwick was up for "Best Compositing"! It pays to get your work out there. The awards ceremony at the Orpheum Theater was absolutely first-class. Held in a restored `20s movie palace with a humongous pipe organ, the production values of the event were on par with the best of them. It was hosted by Penn Gillette of "Penn & Teller" fame, and he was a riot. Awards were passed out by major players in the industry: Grant Boucher, John Gross, Walter Williams, and others. Nominees from all over the world – Japan, Belgium, and the U.S. – got to see their work projected on the silver screen before a packed house. And the body of work itself was cutting edge dynamite stuff! It really made me proud to be in that company. Anyway, I better stop or Tom Patrick will have nothing new to add in the upcoming VTU article on this event. <G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G><G> Sean Hannon Ad Rats – Stamford, CT
