Great news. I'm glad you got it all going.
The cable doesn't make any difference in impedance, but if it's wired
incorrectly, you'll get nothing. You don't always need a transformer… I have
several TF-1 modules which have balanced Canon outputs; by wiring special
cables I was able to dump them directly into 1/4" high impedance inputs on my
mixer. The down side was a loss of 3 db worth of level, but the input pads took
up that slack.
Impedance mismatch can cause everything from level problems to changes in
timbre characteristics. The important thing, though, is if it works and
doesn't hurt anything, forget it and USE it. 8)
