Tom, Boy, that's a circular argument if I ever saw one. You say that things are profane, obscene or abusive simply be cause they "are" profane, obscene or abusive…not because of the reaction of others. By definition, for a thing to be profane, obscene or abusive requires your "cul-de-sac" since the person reading it must react to it in a manner indicating the thing was profane, obscene or abusive. Obviously, in my job, I get called all kinds of names, and certainly the person saying them…intends for them to be abusive; however, I simply ignore them…it doesn't bother me…and thus, while the intent was to be abusive…the fact is they were nothing but words. For a thing to be offensive someone must take offense at it, thus if no one takes offense…nothing could be considered offensive and by extention…profane, obscene or abusive. Don p.s. BTW, with my attitude, it is really kind of fun being called names, it usually shuts them up when you agree with them.
