Thanks for the correction on star distances. Now, do you have any idea
how much weight you need to loft to support a crew of 10 on a 4 to 5 year
mission? Do you know what resources, financial, techno, energy, political
etc. would be required for such a mission? Now imagine those factors
enlarged to cover a mission by the entire population of the planet.
We don't have the oneness of human spirit enough yet to support such a
massive expenditure of effort and resources to one goal. My theory is
that by the time we, as a species reach that point, we will be close to
evolving into totally psychic beings and will no longer need the physical
world to sustain us, thus making the need to move to another planet moot.
To truly appreciate this possibility, have a death experience or practice
the vision quests that American Indian and other cultures have devised for
accessing these other non-physical realms. The sense you come away with is
that the physical world, (including the thoughts of the physical mind) is
like the part of the iceberg that is above the surface of the sea. It
composes the smaller fraction of reality. And we are evloving through all
phases of that reality. Physical existence is the phase we are "stuck" in
at the moment. But it's only a temporary stop.
