Thanks much for the 'hands-on' report! I'd heard of the ShaBLAMM! board, called the company, and got the faxed info. The EDRAM @ 15ns sounds pretty hot! The guy on the phone said they had sent a board to NewTek for evaluation. I guess it's just a startup though, so supply of boards is slim to none. Now all I need is ScreamerNet (sans Raptor/dongle :^)…… The Alpha does sound like the faster chip, but I'm leery of jumping from one orphaned CPU to another. (At least the MIPS seems to have wider acceptance, and slightly more s/w than the DEC chip – right now.) I just started playing around with NT on my girfriend's system (she's a developer, so gets Beta versions of NT), and I have to admit to being suitably impressed. While I haven't done any performance tests, the new filesystem options are very powerful, and the built-in networking seems quite extensive.
