I had a lot of problems installing the system disks with AMax IV. My
local dealer, Expert Services, was installing it and I was watching. We
(as I recall) tried to do it via the AMax Disk Transfer utility provided
with AMax IV and had problems, and then we borrowed a high density disk
drive and AGAIN had problems, and then as I recall retried the first way
and it worked. I do recall that it took a lot of tries.
I now have a Powerbook 520 as well, which can feed into my SCSI port
on the Amiga side and become a second hard disk. I suspect that if I set
up the AMax to run the powerbook hard disk as the boot disk that I could
fairly easily move or copy the system disk to the AMax. If you know
anyone with one of these it might be worth a try. But I know that I got
7.1 working but it just took a bit of time and various tries.
I have been glad that I got the HD floppy as I use it in a number of
ways…works very well with both Amiga and the AMax and since I use the
AMax a lot it has been well worth the money, although the Amax Disk
transfer utility actually works extremely well…just takes an extra step
or two.
