I assume you have created your cylinder with sufficient segments between the caps? MWAVE (and any other similar .PXP, for that matter) can no more bend a cylinder with only one segment than the 3D Editor's own Modify/Object/Bend etc. commands can! The smoother you want the waves to be, the more segments you need. You may also want to tessellate the cylinder. MWAVE and the like work by moving vertices. If there are no vertices except at the ends, then MWAVE and its cousins have nothing to work with. The upshot: if a cylinder, cone, tube, etc. is going to be doing anything but remaining a cylinder, cone, tube, etc. (e.g. bending, twisting, waving, rippling, MWAVEing, MELTing, etc. etc. etc.), be sure to shove that "Segments" slider to the right when you Create it! It also wouldn't hurt to increase the Sides, either (except in terms of slowing down rendering, making the .3DS and .PRJ files bigger, etc.).
