Jonas, Eureka! I made the MWAVE routine work! I made a flat mesh using the GRIDS IPAS routine and applied a MWAVE template to it and whammo! There it was. The WAVE pattern. Unfortunatly this makes the MWAVE routine somewhat less impressive. I cant use it with objects! How can I use it to make that snake like motion of the cylinder I wanted to do? Is it possible to use MWAVE to assist me in that task? If so, please let me know or if there is another way to accomplish this task. Thanks for the help. Douglas Drossman

Douglas, << Unfortunatly this makes the MWAVE routine somewhat less impressive. I cant use it with objects! >> Download herbie.zip from the IMAGES section of the lib. You'll see what Manta can do on objects..

I assume you have created your cylinder with sufficient segments between the caps? MWAVE (and any other similar .PXP, for that matter) can no more bend a cylinder with only one segment than the 3D Editor's own Modify/Object/Bend etc. commands can! The smoother you want the waves to be, the more segments you need. You may also want to tessellate the cylinder. MWAVE and the like work by moving vertices. If there are no vertices except at the ends, then MWAVE and its cousins have nothing to work with. The upshot: if a cylinder, cone, tube, etc. is going to be doing anything but remaining a cylinder, cone, tube, etc. (e.g. bending, twisting, waving, rippling, MWAVEing, MELTing, etc. etc. etc.), be sure to shove that "Segments" slider to the right when you Create it! It also wouldn't hurt to increase the Sides, either (except in terms of slowing down rendering, making the .3DS and .PRJ files bigger, etc.).
