Most families do not build a sukot of their own, but the community will build one together at the synagoge or someones house. It is rare for people to actually spend the week living in the sukot, although I have heard of it being done. Also, the feeling seems as much or more a celebration of Fall and the harvest than a remembrance of escape. -Brian
