This is related to how this setting alters the BIAS calculation. Consider a
scene of about 100 units a "base size". Take your usual bias setting and
multiply accordingly. For instance, if your scene now encompases an area of
1000 units, multiply your Bias by 10 to reach a good starting point. It will
take some fiddling. Set it too high and your shadows will detach from the
objects, too low and you get a banding effect.
