If you choose high or medium pallette the disk space required will be far more than the size of the final flic. The best choice is "custom" pallette. If you have animator pro render maybe 3 sample frames, or even 1 and get a suitable pallette from these that will cover all the colours you need. Use the pallette or a single image (a gif or flic) as the "custom" pallette in 3ds. Other things that can make flics huge are dither-256 and having colourful environments that you fly around. Use subtle or no camera moves and cut to other POV's instead of flythroughs to keep flics small.
