The way we handle uploads in the Programmers Network, is that we encourage distribution of our uploads. If someone wants to put a program on another system, we politely ask people to contact the authors of the work and get approval from them. This way, THE ORIGIONAL AUTHOR makes the decision which system can distribute the program. It is the policy of the Programmers Network to make sure that those systems claiming that they OWN a program, is the LAST one to get it. This way, the program will get a much wider distribution, and it will have already been posted on all the private BBS's FIRST, then the greedy commercial systems can HAVE it. Eventually, the commercial systems like CIS, BIX, and the others will wise up, and get hip to the fact that PD software is FREE and should be distributed as widly as possible. I know that the WELL policy is much more lenient, perhaps thats why they have such a rich library, also more SOURCE code is available. I hope that CIS will open up. At least they are improving by having FREE uploads. So SOMETHING is getting through.
