Strange, I thought the review was pretty good. As you noted, the Wedge is a bit sensitive to movement, but only in that if you phsically thump it against something, it can dislodge. There is no 'box' for the 1000 version, though there is for the 500 version. All in all, in normal operation, it is stable, if not pretty. The main reason an IBM style controller was used is due to the same reason you said 'I don't want to pay upwards of $600 for a hard drive". It was originally designed to be low cost, and that goal was well met. If you are planning on upgrading to a 2000, there are probably better buys for you, as the 2000 Wedge never got past the prototype stage, for the same reason that many other products didn't; the existing controllers are filling the needs better, and at a competetive price. Just thought I'd let you know.
