<<Then your seeing only half the picture.>>
Not at all. I'm only _hearing_ half the _noise_. I'm a bona fide
baby boomer. I went to the 2nd Atlanta International Pop Festival in
Byron, GA which drew an estimated 300,000 of the primest barking,
yelping, howling examples of the Haight Ashbury, free love generation
(of which I am one even now), so I'm quite familiar with the rock 'n
roll. I went to several Old Time Fiddler's Conventions all over the
U.S. including the grandaddy in Union, NC several times so I can also
claim intimate familiarity with stringed instruments played in unique
ways. I've seen too many rock 'n roll concerts for my own good, but I
got to see Janis Joplin wail something about "take another piece of
my heart now baby" live and up close, see Jimi Hendrix play the
national anthem on his upside down guitar at sunrise, see the premier
appearance of Grand Funk Rail Road in the dark, see Canned Heat in a
stuffy auditorium play to way too many encores, see a very petite
Stevie Nicks float around a stage as if suspended from wires, see the
original Allman Brothers Band play for free in the park in downtown
Atlanta several times, experience the Greatful Dead in a sold out
Tucson Stadium, see Alvin Lee and Ten Years After perform in a
warehouse in New Orleans, see The Who, Yes, the Rolling Stones, and
Jethro Tull perform in the Knoxville Civic Colliseum (at different
times, of course), see Jimmy Buffet at the Bull on Duval Street in
Key West, see Leslie West perform "Mississippi Queen" solo in a sweaty
little saloon in Alexandria, and watch the sparks fly off the fingers
of a 98 pound and pasty white Jimmy Page dressed in a red rose
embroidered white silk jump suit in a sold out Led Zepplin concert in
DC for $10.00 a ticket, just to name a few. I listened to _ALL_ of
that noise and heard it all. Maybe that's why I can only hear half
the noise now. Heck, I loved that noise. Most lyrics were easy to
understand except for Steely Dan which still puzzle me when I hear
one of their tunes. Now, I listen to whatever is on the FM radio.
When I get tired of hearing one brand, I tune to another. But I never
listen to crap. I always turn that off. And when I'm tired of
listening to the music, I listen to CNN or road noise. Bette Midler
can bring tears to my eyes as easily as Perelman's violin and Lee
Greenwood singing "God Bless the U.S.A. You know, Dave, after all
that, you're probly right. Maybe I am only seeing half the picture
these days. But I know what I like. …B.
