I would be wary of saying 2X CD-ROM drives can sustain 300kbs, which is
generally considerd peak performance. One rule of thumb says 60kbs off peak is
sustained, which seems to hold true for movies played on high-end Macs. When
setting data rates for movies which you don't want to drop frames under
Windows, between 150 and 200 kbs seems common for AVI, somewhere around 120 for
QuickTime for Windows clips.
